Where to look
Use the left-rear wheel area as the starting point for the associated circuit, then follow the harness toward the rear axle and back to the ABS control assembly.

Read the code correctly

Solenoid #2 is often an internal valve/channel in the ABS hydraulic modulator/actuator, not a separate solenoid at the left-rear wheel. The wheel area is primarily where you inspect the associated harness branch, connector, and rear hub route.

Inspect here, in order

  1. 1

    Left-rear wheel / wheel-well

Driver side / left · rear hub area

Inspect the accessible harness branch, connector lock, chafe points, corrosion, and terminal fit around the wheel well and rear hub.

  2. 2

    Rear axle / frame-rail route

Common inspection path on pickups and SUVs

Trace the harness along the rear axle and frame rail for rubbing, a pulled clip, salt or water intrusion, and an aftermarket splice.

  3. 3

    ABS hydraulic modulator / actuator

Often under hood near the master cylinder / firewall

Locate the modulator and EBCM together where fitted; placement is not universal, so use the vehicle-specific diagram before reaching for it.

  4. 4

Module connector + power / ground

    Related circuit inspection area

Check connector seating, power and ground feeds, and the related circuit before condemning the modulator, actuator, or EBCM assembly.

Platform caveat

Exact routing, actuator/module placement, connector access, and the meaning of C0085 vary by make, model, year, and ABS platform. Confirm the factory description and VIN-specific wiring diagram before probing or ordering parts.

Safe setup

Power off before unplugging accessible connectors, never crawl under an unsupported vehicle, and leave energized circuit testing or hydraulic work to a properly equipped shop.
